Old man winter awakens

Brianna Sadler SNOW TIME — Area residents got their first taste of winter Tuesday morning when snow covered the ground, causing slick roads in various locations and closing several area schools. And while road crews busied themselves with trying to keep roadways clear from ice and snow, Shane Harris of Archer Township, a Jefferson County Courthouse employee, spent his morning dusting the sidewalk surrounding the courthouse with salt.

STEUBENVILLE — Area road crews were out through the night using some of the road salt that’s in tight supply for the winter on the first significant snowfall of the season.

Officials with the National Weather Service in Moon Township, Pa., said there was an inch of snow on the ground at Pittsburgh International Airport as of 7 a.m. today.

The precipitation began with a quick sleet storm moving across the region at about 5 p.m. Monday. Maintenance crews hit the roads shortly after.

Coroner’s investigator admits to stealing credit card
