Literacy council to honor volunteers
The Weirton Area Literacy Council and the Mary H. Weir Public Library will be hosting a Volunteer Appreciation Reception in honor of May Volunteer Appreciation Month Thursday beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the library’s activity room.
Volunteers who have assisted the library and its Literacy and Lifelong Learning Program will be honored for their efforts.
Judith Staskey is president of the Weirton Area Literacy Council.

Survivors and Seekers meet
Survivors and Seekers of Old Yellow Creek Home held its monthly meeting with Gordon Grafton presiding and prayer offered by Hubert Woodland.
Grafton read letters and e-mails he has received about his book, “The Lost Children of the Ohio Valley.
It was decided to send a copy of the book to Oprah Winfrey.
Projects were discussed.
Genealogists plan cemetery meeting
The Jefferson County Chapter, Ohio Genealogical Society, is inviting the community to attend a meeting Sunday at 3 p.m. to discuss the preservation and cleanup project for Island Creek Pioneer Cemetery, located at the intersection of state Route 213

Orchestra to hold concert, fundraiser
The Steubenville City Schools Orchestra will hold its annual spring concert and silent auction fund-raiser on Friday at Harding Middle School. The auction will begin at 6 p.m., with final bidding to be held at the close of intermission.

O’Leary to present Weirton book review
Nancy Ellen Rice O’Leary, state chairman of the Education Department of the GFWC-WV, will present a book review for the Weirton Woman’s Club Saturday at 11 a.m. at Williams Country Club.
O’Leary will review “Hidden Power” by Kati Marton.
