Richardson made right decision
The withdrawal of New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson from contention for consideration as the commerce secretary in the Obama administration is the right move at the right time. Richardson maintains he’ll be cleared in an investigation into political contributions from a financial services firm that won a state contract. Be that as it may, it’s his fight and one belonging to the people of New Mexico, not one for President-elect Barack Obama or the nation as a whole. Richardson took an honorable step in moving to end his own nomination. He’s an experienced government official with service as a congressman, ambassador to the U.N., energy secretary and governor. He knows the lie of the land. He also shows the embodiment of a line we repeat here often: Perception in politics is everything. Perception takes on a reality of its own.
