City and state pride showcased at Weirton festival

Ted Arneault, Mountaineer Casino, Race Track and Resort chief executive officer and lead singer of The Ditch, leads the band in a rendition of Johnny Cash’s “Walk the Line.” Band members Ted Arneault, Gus Monezis, Rik Witkowski, Carlo Volhl, Hermie Graniti and Kurt James later debuted “Some Place Special,” a song co-written by Monezis and Witkowski. More than 2,000 people attended this year’s Renaissance Weirton Family Festival. Renaissance Weirton President and Festival Coordinator Gus Monezis and state Sen. Ed Bowman, D-Weirton, welcomed guests and introduced special guest Gov. Joe Manchin at the beginning of the festival. Manchin thanked the residents of Weirton for the kind welcome and the Renaissance Weirton Committee for organizing the event. “I want to thank the public officials for inviting me here today and for hosting this festival,” she said. “It is great to be out here so we can all enjoy the Fourth of July weekend together.” Manchin informed the crowd West Virginia has more veterans per capita than any other state. He noted that fact, combined with the state’s coal and steel industry, show West Virginia’s dedication to the United States and its armed forces.
