2:56 p.m. - Weirton council passes first reading of sewer increase
Weirton City Council, meeting in a special session this afternoon, passed the first reading of an ordinance proposing a rate increase for the city's sanitary customers. By a vote of 4-3, council passed the first reading of an ordinance which would raise sanitary rates in the city by $2.70 each month. The current rate is $2.95 per 1,000 gallons of wastewater treated.
