Park improvement plans discussed

PROJECT UPDATE – Park Board member and Ward 1 Councilman Ron Jones reported Public Works Superintendent Dave Smith has agreed to assist with the paving project at Marland Heights Park. Jones stated the current walkways will be removed and replaced with blacktop.
The Board of Parks and Recreation has plans for continued improvements at both Starvaggi Memorial Park and Marland Heights Park.
Ward 7 Councilman and Park Board member Max Fijewski reported he had been contacted by citizens living in Bellaire Addition concerning the condition of the walking path leading to Starvaggi Memorial Park. He noted the path was in need of repair for both safety and aesthetics.
“There are portions which are covered with tree limbs and weeds,” he said. “There is also a lot of loose gravel and worn asphalt.”
Operations Director Coty Shingle reported the materials have been ordered to perform the work.
He informed the board of additional progress being made with the beautification of Marland Heights Park. He stated he has worked closely with Ward 1 Councilman Ron Jones to establish a paving schedule for the walkways at the park.
