’Knights pick up tournament win

BRIDGEPORT — The red hot Toronto baseball team had to travel to Niekro Diamond in Bridgeport twice in a 24-hour period to advance to the Division IV Sectional Baseball Championship this evening. The Red Knights needed just five innings to defeat Wellsville 13-3. With the win, the 20-5 Knights will face Shadyside which squeaked by River, 6-5 in the nightcap.

“It was tough getting started tonight,” Toronto head coach Brian Perkins said. “We got one inning in last night, then packed up and went home just to turn back around come back down here tonight. It may have caused us to lose focus. I know it was mentally tough on these guys and we looked a little flat, but once we got going we played well.

“It’s great to hit the 20-win mark, but we feel we have a lot left to accomplish and we are still improving. That’s where you want to be this time of year, playing your best baseball.”
