CLO?Cabaret to present ‘Nunsense’

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera Cabaret will show “Nunsense” today through June 6. Sister Julia, Child of God, the convent cook, accidentally poisoned 52 of her fellow sisters at the Little Sisters of Hoboken nunnery. In need of funds to bury four of their sisters, the five surviving “Little Hobos” take over the school auditorium to raise money showcasing their hidden talents. The show includes songs such as “Nunsense is Habit-Forming,” “So You Want to Be a Nun,” “Tackle That Temptation With a Time-Step,” “Growing Up Catholic,” “We’ve Got to Clean Out the Freezer” and “Holier Than Thou.” “Nunsense” was inspired by a line of greeting cards created by writer/director Dan Groggin and actress Marilyn Farina in the early 1980s. When Farina was invited to appear in a habit at a card promotion, Groggin wrote a sketch, eventually inspiring “Nunsense.
