I find it hard to believe that the chess club would have a sub-group named "the rape crew"
Maybe if your superintendent had a pair and actually addressed this from the beginning you wouldn't have the entire world looking at Steubenville and the football team.
Access the blame for the media saturation where it belongs. On those who sat on their hands and now are feeling the heat.
