Fireworks should be the last thing council or anyone else should be focusing on at this point. The move to vote no on the B&O, then cut the service fees makes zero sense. There are still money savings plans available to council, starting with the elimination of unnecessary overtime in the fire department. One cannot sympathize with a fire chief, who during his tenure as union president, willingly agreed with the city administration to cut a firefighter from the ranks. Now he is whining about being shorthanded--looks like that one came back to bite him in the butt. Employees need to begin paying a share of their health care coverage. Granted, it will not solve the enormous shortfall, but it would be a start. Again, don't ask tax payers or business owners to carry the burden of debt unless you are willing to make the necessary changes in-house that will help to cut costs.
