Women’s Auxiliary amend bylaws to assist members

April 23, 2008
Weirton Daily Times
On April 14 the Tri-State Marine Corps Women’s Auxiliary was held at the Weirton Knights of Columbus. In absence of President Joan Spano, Vice Shirley Brecht called the meeting to order.

Chaplain Rose Murray gave the invocation and led a special prayer for Spano. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Darlene Kemp while Rita Robinson took the roll call.

Recording Secretary Carol Lyons read the minutes from the March meeting, which were approved as read. Treasurer Maxine Ragan gave the financial report.

Sunshine Chairperson Mary Ann Elliott sent get well cards to Spano, Debbie George, Don Toothman and Grace Miiage. A sympathy card was sent to Dorothy Capito on the death of her husband, Joe Capito, club member.

The women met at the Eat ‘N Park Restaurant in Weirton on April 16 for a luncheon with nine members present. Brecht donated three flower pots for the drawing. Another luncheon is planned for noon on May 14 at the same location.

The silent bake sale is still going on for those who have not paid.

The Auxiliary will send $15 to the American Legion for the wreath for Memorial Day. Ragan won the 50/50 drawing and donated it back to the club.

Bylaws were amended to help those in need who cannot pay their dues for one year.

Peg Dawson was in charge of refreshments. Carol Lyons and Mary Ann Smith helped serve. Ragan, in the absence of Carol Mack, will be in charge for May.

The next meeting will be held at 6:20 p.m. on May 12 in the Knights of Columbus in Weirton.
