The revival, featuring the Rev. Vincent P. Oliver, starts nightly at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Oliver was born in Detroit, Mich. He attended Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Mich., where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History in 1973. In 1975 he was awarded the Kellogg Fellowship to pursue a Master of Arts Degree in Urban Counseling Psychology at Michigan State University, 1978. While in college he me and married the former Veronica Outlaw of Washington, N.C. in 1972. Vincent II?and Kimberly are their children.
In January of 1976 Oliver relocated to Newark, Del. to assume the position of ASsistant Dean of Students and the first Director of the Center for Black Culture at the University of Delaware.
Oliver has received numerous awards and recognition from such organizations as the Northeast Alliance, the Martin Luther King Center and the Black Professionals Association. He is a past member of the New Castle County Ethics Commission and the Communities in Schools of Delaware Board of Directors. He currently serves as a founding Board member of the Prestige Academy Charter School for Boys.
In December 1984 Oliver acknowledged and accepted his calling to preach. He was licensed in April 1985. In April 1986 he was ordained and called to serve as Pastor of the New Calvary Baptist Church of South Wilmington, Del. New Calvary has experienced great spiritual and numerical growth as is has caught the pastor’s passion for serving and helping the people of Southbridge.
Pastor Oliver received his Bible and ministry training at Deliverance Evangelistic Bible Institute and New Life Bible College, both of Philadelphia, Pa.
From 1997-2000 Oliver held the office of president of the United Baptist Convention of Delaware. He is the immediate past president and founder of the Delaware Christian Alliance Inc.
The Olivers make their home in New Castle, Del.
