Kids Center schedules activities, fundraisers

BURGETTSTOWN -- The Burgettstown Kids center has scheduled several activities for May and has begun two new fundraising projects.

“We’ve got little (fundraising projects) going on all year,” said Jim Reedy, center director.

The first new fundraiser is an ongoing one in which the center is collecting used cell phones and empty computer printer ink cartridges, which the center then turns in for credit with the Eco Funding group, Reedy said.

“The kids’ center is going green,” said Reedy.

Drop-off points are at the center and at JMS Business Machines, but any other businesses or groups wishing to participate by donating items or operating as a drop-off point are asked to contact the center.

In addition, a Pampered Chef fundraiser party is scheduled for 7 p.m. May 15 at the center, said Reedy.

“All of the proceeds will benefit the center,” he said.

Reedy added there are several activities scheduled at the center this month, including a movie night, a dance and a karaoke night.

The schedule is:

* Friday, movie night, “Golden Compass.”

* May 17, dance.

* May 23, karaoke and “Guitar Hero.”

All events run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and drinks and refreshments are available at the center, according to Reedy.
