Ward 7 Councilman and Park Board member Max Fijewski reported he had been contacted by citizens living in Bellaire Addition concerning the condition of the walking path leading to Starvaggi Memorial Park. He noted the path was in need of repair for both safety and aesthetics.
“There are portions which are covered with tree limbs and weeds,” he said. “There is also a lot of loose gravel and worn asphalt.”
Operations Director Coty Shingle reported the materials have been ordered to perform the work.
He informed the board of additional progress being made with the beautification of Marland Heights Park. He stated he has worked closely with Ward 1 Councilman Ron Jones to establish a paving schedule for the walkways at the park.
“We’re going to be working with Public Works Superintendent David Smith,” Jones said. “The concrete walkways are going to be dug up and we’re going to pave new sections.”
In other business, Fijewski asked the board for permission to contact representatives from several retailers who specialized in “water activities.” He stated he wanted to research materials and the potential of installing them at the Margaret Manson Weir Memorial Pool.
Fijewski told board members he was interested in the information, if only to see the possibilities available at the pool.
