Library volunteers to be recognized

May is Volunteer Appreciation Month and the volunteers working with the Mary H. Weir Public Library, a United Way Agency, will be honored at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at a special reception beginning in the Library's Activity Room.

Volunteers involved with the Library's Literacy & Lifelong Learning Program will be honored along with volunteers who have been helping the library with its various projects throughout the year.

The event is being sponsored by the library and the Weirton Area Literacy Council. Yudith Staskey is the council president.

Students, volunteers and friends of the library, as well as anyone interested in learning more about the Literacy & Lifelong Learning Program, are invited to attend the reception.

Management club to meet at Gio’s

The Weirton Steel Management Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Monday at Gio's Family Restaurant in the banquet room.

All members and former members are invited to attend dinner and social time.



Class of 2011 fundraiser planned

The Weir High School Class of 2011 parents’ group are currently selling t-shirts to help raise money for the class.

T-shirts will be available for purchase or pick up, as well as additional order forms, at 7 p.m. on Monday at the Hancock County Savings Bank.

Junior golf to hold registration

Registration will begin on Sunday and end June 6 for the 10th annual Mountaineer Woodview Junior Golf Association.

The association is open to all area boys and girls ages 6 to 16. This year’s program includes a high school-phase to help players get ready for their fall season.

Registration forms can be picked up at the Mountaineer Woodview Golf Course. Interested participants can contact Bob Glass at (304) 387-3268. Additional information can be seen on the Web site at www.mwjga.com.



First Baptist plans rummage sale

Plan ahead for the First Baptist Church’s annual rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 2. p.m. on Tuesday, June 3. (Note corrected date.)

Household items and clothing, a bake sale and soup and sandwich lunch will be included. The church is located at the corner of Homewood Ave. and Adams St. in Weirton.

The sale is sponsored by the American Baptist Women’s ministries.
