Emergency service efforts being recognizedMay 21, 2008 - By GIOVANNI P. ROSSI, Staff writer
The Weirton Area Ambulance and Rescue Squad Inc. joined the City of Weirton Fire Department to celebrate National Emergency Medical Services Week.
In a proclamation, Gov. Joe Manchin noted EMS as “a vital public service” which is ready to provide care and lifesaving techniques all day, every day. He stated he believed it was important to take the designated week of May 18-24 to recognize the value and accomplishments of EMS providers. According to WAARS Acting Director Kessler Cole, Weirton’s ambulance service and fire department work together as first responders in medical emergency situations. Cole reported the theme for this year’s EMS week is “Your Life is Our Mission.” “We chose this theme to recognize the commitment that emergency medical personnel make to the Weirton community we serve,” he said. “Their mission provides round-the-clock care to residents 365 days a year.” Mayor Mark Harris stated he believes the services provided by EMS responders were irreplaceable and invaluable to the function and safety of Weirton and its citizens. “They are always here to ensure our safety,” he said. “Emergency responders are constantly training to keep up with new techniques and make sure they know how to be as effective as possible at saving lives. They deserve to be recognized and appreciated.” (Rossi can be contacted at grossi@weirtondailytimes.com'>grossi@weirtondailytimes.com) |
