States join in herion investigation
By GIOVANNI P. ROSSI, Staff writerFour individuals were arrested at Weirton Medical Center in connection with a heroin investigation Wednesday.
The arrests were part of an investigation by the Hancock-Brooke-Weirton Drug Task Force.
Weirton Police Lt. Rick Stead reported this operation focused on heroin trafficking between Weirton, Wellsburg and western Pennsylvania. Evidence found during this investigation led to the recovery of 70 stamp bags of heroin. According to Stead, this amount has a street value of approximately $1,400. Several syringes, $1,029 in cash and a small amount of Percoset were also reported at the scene.
Stead noted the individuals were apprehended in the Weirton Medical Center parking lot.
"A 2-year-old child was also present at the time the arrests were made," Stead said.
Eric Lee Narquini, 26, from Avella, Pa. was arrested for possession with intent to deliver heroin. Jacqueline Beiter, 25, from Burgettstown, Pa. was arrested for child endangerment. Stead reported both face additional charges.
Also, Brandon Lee Gear, 23, of Wellsburg was arrested for possession of Percoset and drug abuse instruments. Shelly Smart, 21, also of Wellsburg was arrested for conspiracy to possess a controlled substance.
Stead reported cooperation in this investigation was provided by the Pennsylvania State Police Troop "B" Vice Unit, as well as the Weirton Police Department K-9 Division and Patrol Division which participated in the arrest.
