Burglars confess to unreported crimes

By GIOVANNI P. ROSSI, Staff writer
POSTED: July 11, 2008

Following their arrest, two men confessed to a string of crimes - some unreported - throughout Hancock and Brooke counties, according to Weirton Police.

Weirton Police Detective Rob Alexander reported Rexal Sandy and Joe Satathite were arrested following an investigation on several burglaries throughout the Weirton area. Alexander noted these individuals were arrested over a week ago, yet warrants continued to be filed for several days.

"The Brooke County Sheriff's Department had been looking for them for awhile," he said. "They backed out of that area and started up here in Weirton."

The detective stated numerous warrants from Brooke County, as well as additional from the City of Weirton, had been collected in connection to petit theft and breaking and entering.

"They finally agreed to confess to their involvement in each crime," Alexander said. "They also brought up other incidents of theft which had not been reported."

Alexander noted several individuals were unaware that they had been robbed until the police arrived at their home and explained what happened.

Sandy and Satathite provided the detailed information - including the items stolen and the locations where they had been stored - for police to investigate each matter.

Many of the incidents involved stolen money, Alexander reported.

More warrants are expected to be issued in relation to this incident.

Further information on the arrests is unavailable at this time because of the ongoing investigation.
