Weirton Police, in conjunction with the Steubenville Police Narcotics Division, received information that led to the arrest of three individuals on drug charges Wednesday.
Weirton Police Detective Ricky Griskevich reported that the Weirton Police Patrol Division, Street Crimes Unit and K-9 Unit participated in a traffic stop along U.S. 22 resulting in several arrests and the seizure of 43 stamp bags of heroin. According to Griskevich, eight of these bags were used prior to being found by police. He added that each bag sold at a street value of approximately $20.
"We also found cash and drug-use instruments in the car," he said.
"During the traffic stop, one of the guys fessed up to having drugs right on the spot," he continued.
Griskevich said officers located marijuana, a pipe used for smoking crack cocaine, $258 in cash and several hypodermic needles in addition to the stamp bags.
Jon Jay Crawford, 36, of 117 Main St., Richmond, Ohio, was the owner of the vehicle and now faces the charges of conspiracy to deliver and transporting a controlled substance into the state with the intent to deliver. Also in the vehicle were Stephen Michael Kraina, no age provided by police, of 3535 Williams Drive, Weirton, and Angela Marie Dobbs, 31, of 345 Miller Ave., Weirton, who face the same charges.
"This arrest would not have been possible without the assistance of the Steubenville Police Narcotics Division," Griskevich said. "Their information was solid and we were able to stop these drugs from coming through the state."
The detective added that the cooperation between the Weirton Police Department, Steubenville Police Department and other law enforcement agencies has led to many arrests throughout the Tri-State Area.
"There are a lot more drug users out there than there are police officers," he said.
"It's us teaming up that allows us to get as many of these guys off the street as possible."
