Oak Glen Middle School’s fifth grade orientation is scheduled from 6 to 7 p.m. on Thursday.
Administrators request that the fifth grade student and two guests attend.
WVNCC ‘Friends of the College’ to meet
The West Virginia Northern Community College – Weirton Campus’ “Friends of the College” will meet at noon on Thursday in the Community Room of the Hancock County Savings Bank on Three Springs Drive in Weirton.
All members are encouraged to attend.
Fair seeking ‘Royalty’ contestants
The Hancock County Oldtime Fair will be held at Tomlinson Run State Park in New Manchester, W.Va. from Sept. 19 to 21.
The fair will be continuing the tradition of “Princess and Prince of the Fair” and is currently seeking candidates.
Fair royalty candidates must be age 10, 11, or 12 as of January 1, a resident of Hancock County or a student in a Hancock County School. Fair royalty must be available to attend ALL 3 days of the fair, Sept. 19, 20 and 21, with a parent or guardian present. They will assist with the presentation of trophies and ribbons. Fair royalty must also be available to attend the Weirton Fourth of July parade, the Chester Christmas parade, and miscellaneous county parades throughout the next year.

Pharmacies initiate free vitamin program
Follansbee Pharmacy and Tri-State Pharmacy started a Kid’s Club – Free Vitamin Program for children 3 to 12 years old. Children can sign-up for free vitamins for a year at either pharmacy.
The Kid’s Club is open to all children. Parents or guardians can enroll their children in person at either Follansbee Pharmacy or Tri-State Pharmacy in Weirton.
Football boosters plan food drive
The Weir Football Boosters will be holding a food drive to benefit the Community Bread Basket located at 3501 West St. in Weirton. The food drive will beheld during Thursday’s Weir High vs. Weirton Madonna football scrimmage at Jimmy Carey Stadium. The scrimmage begins at 6 p.m.
In lieu of a parking fee, non-perishable items and monetary donations will be collected. Volunteers form the Weir Football Boosters, Weirton Madonna High School and the Community Bread Basket will be on hand to collect the items on Thursday.

Weirton senior center plans trips
The Greater Weirton Senior Center announces two upcoming trips:
Seniors will be going to the Carnegie Science Center on Wednesday, Aug. 27 to visit the artifacts of the Titanic. Cost of the trip is $30 which covers the admission ticket and transportation, with dinner “on your own.” The van will pick up at the Brooke Senior Center at 10:30 a.m. and travel to the Greater Weirton Senior Center to depart at 11 a.m.
Seniors will be taking a trip to Janoski’s Farm and Greenhouse on Wednesday, Sept. 17. This trip will be an all-day event. The trip will depart the senior center at 9 a.m. and the cost is $10 per person with dinner “on your own.”

Women’s ministry hosting Women’s Day
The Women’s Ministry of Bethlehem Apostolic Temple in Wheeling invites the community to their 2008 Women’s Day at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday.
The guest speaker will be Evangelist Cynthia Cummings of Chicago, Ill. Mother Rose Hibbett is the Women’s Ministry Leader and Dr. D.W. Cummings is the pastor.
