Reading council holds appreciation dinner

The Brooke County Reading Council held its 13th annual Appreciation Dinner recently at Pier 12 in Wellsburg.
BCRC officers and building representatives were honored for their leadership in literacy education and contributions to BCRC programs and goals.
Recognized with certificates and gifts of appreciation were Building Representatives Kim Ragor, Colliers Primary; Sandy Baldauf, Wellsburg Primary; Debbie Rea, Jefferson Primary; Linda Miller, Beech Bottom Primary; and Carla Bensie, Brooke High.
Also recognized with certificates and gifts of appreciation were officers Dr. Maryann Ehle, co-president; Sharon Cuomo, co-president; Elaine Merriner, membership chair; Jenny K. Stucin, treasurer; Shirley Cuomo, secretary; Carla Bensie, vice president; and Dr. Hollie Buchanon, member.
Plans for the 2008-2009 BCRC program agenda were outlined. These include monthly "Children's Theatre Programs" at Brooke County Library's Family Fun Nights, the "Annual Spring Fling It's a Writing Thing," the "Fall Membership Tea," the annual "Appreciation Dinner," "Appalachian Writers and Their Literary Works," "Look Who's Reading in Brooke County," an interactive workshop and a series of exciting literacy presentations.
The Brooke County Reading Council is an affiliate of the West Virginia Reading Association and the International Reading Association and is the Partner-in-Literacy of the Brooke County Library.
All four of these professional organizations are committed to promoting literacy both locally and globally through research and exciting literacy programs.
The BCRC has been awarded Honor Council status by the International Reading Association, and Dr. Maryann Ehle and Sharon Cuomo have been named Honor Presidents by the West Virginia Reading Association.
