JEWETT — The culinary and craft skills of the Harrison County Farm Bureau promotion and education committee were put on display at the annual Farm-City Luncheon at the Jewett Fire Hall. Ladies each brought a salad, entree or dessert for the long table laden with food for the luncheon and contributed gifts they had made or purchased to be used as door prizes. There were jars of homemade jams and jellies, cookies, plants and kitchen and baskets bearing kitchen utensils to be won. Jayne Wallace gave the welcome as the president of the bureau, and Linda Mader gave the invocation, telling about spring being a time of rebirth and renewal. Three ladies from Jefferson County were present — Mary Ramsey, Ruth Sanders and Dolores Smythe — along with ladies from Harrison County farms and small towns. Michele Specht, Harrison, Jefferson, Carroll and Tuscarawas county organization director, thanked the committee for their hard work for the luncheon and their projects during the year. Gale Betterly, Farm Bureau state trustee, said it would be her last official visit to the county, since she is retiring after serving as state trustee for more than nine years and in many other capacities. Connie Finton, a dairy farmer with her husband, Cliff, who is active in the Tuscarawas County dairy circle, was the guest speaker. She spoke on the ABCs of farming, telling about all the groups who use acronyms as titles in the agriculture world. (McCoy can be contacted at emccoy@heraldstaronline.com.)
