Brooke graduates tonight
WELLSBURG - The Class of 2009 from Brooke High School is scheduled to graduate at 7 p.m. today in the facility's gymnasium.
This year's valedictorians are Adelle Schaefer and Elizabeth Krinock. Salutatorians are Sherry Hamilton, Alana Coen and Camden Nogay.
Schaefer is the daughter of William and Teresa Schaefer of Follansbee. Her achievements include the Principal's Honor Roll, National Honor Society and Honors Program.
She has received the bronze, silver and gold academic pins, participated in the West Virginia State Mathematics Field Day and was chosen as a recipient of the Bruin's Best Award.
Schaefer participated in HOSA, chemistry club, math club, Key Club and biology club.
She has served as a volunteer at Weirton Medical Center.
She has been accepted into West Virginia University's Honors College, where she will major in biology/pre-medicine.
Krinock is the daughter of Joe and Kathy Krinock of Weirton. She was a member of the Spanish club, serving as treasurer, as well as the chemistry club, Key Club, biology club, HOSA, math club and National Honor Society.
She volunteers at Weirton Medical Center and tutors at L.B. Millsop Primary School and has participated in Math Field Day and the honors program.
She plans to attend Bethany College to major in scientific psychology.
Hamilton is the daughter of Philip and Janet Hamilton of Windsor Heights.
She was an active member of the Madrigal Choir, chamber choir, Renaissance choir and concert choir.
She accompanied the choirs on piano, including the intermediate choir.
Hamilton was a member of the Key Club, BHS News Crew, Spanish club, French club and ski club and played basketball.
A leader for Bruins for the Cross, she also was president of the art club. She was head artist for the school productions "The Pajama Game" and "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" as well as a selected senior artist for the class murals.
Hamilton took part in the talent show numerous times and placed every year.
She was a part of the student leadership team of the Anderson Affiliated Church of God for the state of West Virginia.
She is a member of the Windsor Heights Church of God where she has been a worship leader and pianist and participated in mission trips.
She plans to major in architecture at Fairmont State University and minor in music.
Coen is the daughter of Donald and Loretta Coen of Wellsburg. She has been a member of the WBHS Morning News team, where she spent four years as an anchor. She also participated in the Key Club, serving as secretary, as well as Friends of Rachel, SADD, RAZE, chemistry club, environmental Earth science club and French club.
Coen was a member of the high school choir and madrigal choir and participated in the West Virginia All-State Choir.
She volunteered at Oglebay Good Zoo, teaches a Bible class at the Church of Christ, tutors at the Henderson Chapel in Wellsburg and assists teaching karate classes at the Top Form Karate Studio in Weirton.
She plans to attend Fairmont State University and major in political science and national security and intelligence. She will minor in French.
Nogay is the son of Joe and Cathy Nogay of Weirton.
He was a two-year letterman and team captain of the Brooke High School basketball team. He was president of the National Honor Society, a WBHS news anchor, a Wendy's High School Heisman school winner, Mountaineer Boy's State citizen, a Wheeling Youth Leadership participant, a homecoming king's court member and a recipient of the bronze, silver and gold academic pin.
He was a Bruin's Best and West Virginia Golden Horseshoe recipient.
Nogay plans to attend Dartmouth College to major in economics or mathematics.
