2:30 p.m. - Raids lead to marijuana bust

July 2, 2009

The Hancock-Brooke-Weirton Drug and Violent Crime Task Force conducted two raids on Wednesday in connection with two local marijuana growing operations.

The task force and members of the Hancock County Sheriff's Department raided two homes in Chester, netting more than 70 plants and almost 3 pounds of finished marijuana.

Officials have stated at least four individuals were involved in the operation, and charges are pending.

The names and locations have not been released because of the ongoing investigation.

Members of the task force have been working in conjunction with Pennsylvania authorities and the Drug Enforcement Administration for this operation.

The task force is a multi-jurisdictional operation made up of members of the Hancock County Sheriff's Department, Brooke County Sheriff's Department, Weirton Police Department and the DEA.

Anyone having drug information can confidentially leave a tip by calling the task force at (304) 797-8574.
