Three Score seniors share summer picnic

"Summer picnic" was the theme for the Three Score Senior Club's Aug. dinner meeting, held at Undo's in the Holiday Inn-Weirton.

President Frances "Cookie"?Veltri welcomed all members and guests, and called on Josie Elliot to give the invocation. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and "God Bless America" was sung.

Veltri introduced a group of teens from the Weirton Heights Memorial Baptist Church performing in "mime," where scenes of real life, focusing on God, are expressed by gesture only. Among other selections the highlights were, "America the Beautiful,"?"The Lord's Prayer" and "I?Can Only Imagine." Tabitha Baker is the group's director.

Next month's entertainment will be Suzanne Varitek.

The secretary's report was delivered by Pat Deletka; the minutes were approved as read. The financial report was given by Treasurer Sandra Weigel. It will be filed for audit.

Reservation Chairman Vivian Weigel announced that there were 150 members in attendance. Evelyn Mayfield was welcomed as a new member. Four guests were in attendance: Flossie Golden, Dick Bailey, Martha Varitek and Rose DiCocco.

Sunshine Chairman Winnie Kemp sent get- well cards to Lois Dick, Edna Harrison, Mary Mazzone, Jean Ray, Lois Rice, Mike Valiga, Mary Fazi, Joe Meador, Charles Saffle and Ruth Reinard.

Thank-you card were received from Kathryn Hardsouk, Mazzone and Rice.

A sympathy card was sent to the family of Martha Leach. A?moment of silence was held.

A?birthday was celebrated by Jean White; "Happy Birthday" was sung. Anniversaries were celebrated by Carl and Regina Truax, 50 years; and Bill and Jeanette Wetzel, 57 years. Members sang "Happy Anniversary."

Hospitality Chairman Jim Hare awarded cash prizes to George Pohlman, Tony LaRosa, Grace Lenhart, Mary Jane Cummings and Mary Ann DiFonzo. Picnic Baskets filled with "goodies" were won by Edna Harrison and DiFonzo.

Two dinners, complements of Undo's, were awarded to Mary Lou McKinley and Mazzone.

Jack Cummings was in charge of the 50/25/25 drawings. They were won by Ann Restanio and Alice Cooke.

Veltri announced the nominating committee to select officers for 2010 are Captain Billie Dietz, Eva Fabianich, Joan Gallagher and Wilma Mentzer. Veltri thanked everyone for attending and reminded members that September is "Western Night."

Joe Veltri invited everyone to stay for social hour.

The benediction was given by Elliot.
