N.C. women open fall seasonSeptember 19, 2009NEW CUMBERLAND - The GFWC WV Woman's Club of New Cumberland discussed upcoming events and heard reports at its September meeting at Swaney Memorial Library.Devotions were read by Iris Cuppy and a prayer was given by Shelva Andrews, who presided. A report on the Summer Conference was given by Andrews and Alice Mitchell. Reports also were given by Patty Fisher and Alice Mitchell. The club picnic was held in August at the home of Joe Blake, where members had the opportunity to view his antiques collection. Upcoming events discussed included the concession stand at the pottery outlet sale, the New Cumberland River Fest and the Hancock County Fair. It was decided to participate only at the October pottery outlet sale. A basket is going to be filled with items needed by residents of Brooke Place for Girls to be delivered at Christmas time. Mitchell presented a scrap book to Iris Cuppy filled with mementos of the years of her presidency. Dorothy Hawkes, program chairman announced the activities that will take place at the October meeting. There will be arts and crafts with first-place winners taken to the Northern District Convention Oct. 24 in Bethany. There also will be a decorated hat contest. Members are expected to pay $1 each to wear a hat during the meeting. The money will be donated to "Heavenly Hats," an organization that purchases hats for people who have lost their hair due to an illness. There also will be an initiation of new members. Hostesses were members of the executive board. The next meeting will be Oct. 5 at 1 p.m. at the library. |
