Elva W. Green

GREEN, Elva W., 98, of Wintersville, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2009.
She was born October 18, 1910, in Marcus, W.Va., a daughter of the late Peter G. and Leola Johns Barbe.
Elva was a school teacher in a one-room school house, which housed all grades in Cowen, W.Va.
She later attended Steubenville Business College and Jefferson Community College.
She bowled for many years on the Sunday Evening Mixed Double Bowling Team, worked in the Montgomery Ward credit office and was a seamstress at Fishers’ Department Store.
Elva was a member, trustee and Sunday school teacher at First Congregational Church where she also held membership in the Marion Woodward Missionary Society, Womens Fellowship and “Kum-Join-Us” Sunday school class.
She later became a member of Zion United Church of Christ and remained a member of the Women’s Fellowship.
Preceding Elva in death were her husband Arlie H. Green on November 9, 1978, daughter Phyllis Golden, five sisters, one brother and one half-sister.
Surviving are her two daughters; Carolyn (George) Bickerstaff of Wintersville and Betty (Robert) Morgan of Weirton, W.Va., 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren, three great-great-great-grandchildren, four half-sisters and two half-brothers.
Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Vaughn A. Foster, Sr. and Rev. Thomas Bullard co-officiating.
Burial at Fort Steuben.
