Wanda L. Smith Carpenter

CARPENTER, Wanda L. Smith, 83, of State Route 213, Steubenville (Pleasant Hill), Ohio passed away Sunday, September 27, 2009, at the Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville. She was born November 15, 1915, in New Martinsville, W.Va., the daughter of the late John and Lucy Trader Rush. Wanda is a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and the Women’s Missionary Union of the Church. She had been employed by the former Speaker’s Grocery Store, Pleasant Hill. In addition to her parents, Wanda was preceded in death by her former husband, William G. Judge Sr.; second husband, Edward Smith; third husband, Russell T. Carpenter; daughter, Ramona McMannis; son, Mark David Smith; brothers, John and Edgar Rush; and sisters, Hilda Whiteman and Oleva Rush. Her survivors are sons, William Judge, Jr. and wife Janet of Scio, Ohio, Thomas Judge and wife Colleen of Johnstown, Ohio, and Thomas Smith of Scio; brothers, Otis Rush and wife Glenda of Proctor, W.Va., Kenneth Rush and wife Nellie of Weirton, W.Va., and Paul Rush and wife Theresa of New Martinsville, West Virginia; sisters, Lois Lawrence of Sardis, Ohio, Glenda Sue Ames and husband Don of Naples, Fla. and Dianna Wade and husband Roger of Proctor, W.Va.; many grandchildren and many great-grandchildren Friends and family will gather for visitation Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 2305 State Route 213, Steubenville (Pleasant Hill). There will be additional visitation Thursday from 11 a.m.. to noon at the church. A celebration service of Wanda’s life will be held Thursday, Oct. 1 at noon at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Tommy Mills officiating. Burial will follow at the Island Creek Cemetery State Route 213 and County Road 46, Toronto.
