CREDIT UNION DAY: International Credit Union Day will be celebrated by 177 million members belonging to 46,000 credit unions in 97 countries during October including those belonging to five credit unions in the Weirton area. Theme of the observance is “Your Money, Your Choice, Your Credit Union.” Local credit union members and guests will celebrate at an annual dinner-dance on Oct. 24 at Williams Country Club. First Choice America Community Federal Credit Union, 3501 Main St., Weirton, is this year’s host credit union. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Credit unions are financial cooperatives, owned by the people who save and borrow there. Participating in the 49th annual local observance will be the employees and guests of First Choice America; Strip Steel Community Federal Credit Union; Tin Mill Community Federal Credit Union; Hancock School Employees Federal Credit Union and Eagle Can Employees Federal Credit Union. The five credit unions comprise the Weirton-Wellsburg Chapter of the West Virginia Credit Union League. Janet Stagani of the Tin Mill credit union is head of the chapter. John R. Thayer, chairman of the board of directors of First Choice America, is general chairman of the ICU Day dinner-dance. DJ Chico Ruiz will provide music. The worldwide credit union day observance is Oct.15. ADMISSIONS: Kristen Tucker Taylor of Richmond was named Jefferson Community College’s new admissions director. Previously, she was director of the Upward Bound Program at JCC and had worked as a recruiter/adviser at the college. She also worked as the recruitment coordinator and academic adviser at Ohio Universy-Eastern. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Ohio Dominican University and a master’s in leadership in higher education from Capella University. Taylor was a member of the Kappa Gamma Pi, Delta Epsilon Sigma and Phi Theta Kappa honor societies. JOINS FIRM: Candace Smith of Weirton has joined Akron-based Cambridge Home Health Care as clinical supervisor/branch manager for its Steubenville office. Smith is a graduate of the Licensed Practical Nursing Program at Jefferson Community College. UNC FELLOW: Robb Hutton, a resident of Charlotte, has been admitted for the fall of 2009 to the University of North Carolina-Charlotte as a Principal Fellow. One of only 65 Principal Fellows selected statewide to participate in the two-year program, Robb will complete a full year of coursework and a 10-month full-time internship, while earning a masters degree in school administration. The Principal Fellows Program is a nationally recognized school leadership program offered in conjunction with UNC Charlotte and the University of North Carolina system.
