Wellness Center announces second annual open house

The staff and Board members of the Hancock County Senior Wellness Center invite the community to join them from noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 20 for its Second Annual Open House. The center will be distributing gifts and door prizes, as well as introducing several new programs, activities and events. Many people may not realize that the programs, services, activities and events are done at little or no cost to local seniors.

The four-hour event will showcase services available at the center on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis: Transportation, in-home services, SHIP?Counseling, social activities, educational workshops, wellness activities and more.

Flu shots available at Senior Center

J.J. Bernabei from Tri-State Pharmacy will be at the Greater Weirton Senior Center, located at 3425 Main St., at noon on Wednesday to speak about the H1N1 (Swine)?Flu and to administer seasonal flu shots.

Those who want shots are asked to bring their Medicare cards.

Shriners announce monthly breakfast

The Northern Panhandle Shrine Club, located on Harmon Creek Road in Weirton, will host its monthly all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. on Saturday. The public is welcome.

The menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, juice and coffee. Cost is $6 for adults and children over 10; $3 for children 5 to 10; and children under 5 are free.

Diabetes Awareness class scheduled

A "Support for the Diabetic"?class is being offered at 1 p.m. on Nov. 18 at the Hancock County Senior Wellness Center, 647 Gas Valley Road in New Cumberland.

This class is not a medically sanctioned format, but is designed to provide information and support for those concerned with diabetes and its sufferers. A healthy snack will be provided.
