BURGETTSTOWN, Pa. - Several area youth groups will be participating in creating a Halloween walk-through trail - "Boo in the Park" - at the Burgettstown Community Park on Main Street.

The project, which is being spearheaded by Cub Scout Pack 1350 and Boy Scout Troop 1351, will be held, beginning at 6 p.m., on Oct. 23-24. Also scheduled to participate are the Our Lady of Lourdes Youth Group, the Weirton Madonna tennis team and the Burgettstown Kids Center, said Mary Oddi, pack master.

"We wanted to do something in the community," said Oddi. "We wanted to do something for the kids in the community, something they could walk to. There's nothing in the community itself."

She said the group is still seeking volunteers for the event, including adults, teenagers and children.

"We want to get the kids involved in helping their community," she said.

Oddi said the group would need volunteers both for setting up and taking down the stations and to help run the concession stand. Volunteers are also needed to camp out in the park over night and keep an eye on the stations.

The youth groups are also looking for donations of funds and any food donations for the concession stand, said Oddi.

She added the event should be accessible to a wide age range.

"There will be certain things that will be scary, and some things that are just silly fun," she said. "If there is a small child in a group, we are not going to go out of our way to scare them."

Oddi kept details of most of the stations under wraps, but did say that those attending could expect to see a mad scientist.

"I don't want to give everything away," she said.

She thanked the community for the positive response for requests for sponsorships, and added that they were still available.

"We just want to have something within the community," she said. "Something where families can go for an evening together."
