Madonna golf team honored by city

October 23, 2009 - By ANGELINA DICKSON, Staff writer

City of Weirton officials honored the Weirton Madonna Golf Team members and coach for winning the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Class A State Championship.

Mayor Mark Harris presented each of the team members, Emalee Hvizdak, Andrew Gobleck, Nick Battista, James McFadden, Austin Pitchok, Courtney Brancazio, Coach TJ Brancazio and Guido Magnone, with a Mayor's Award plaque and commemorative medals as well.

Harris congratulated the team on their accomplishment for bringing "honor and distinction" to the community. He stated it was an honor to present the team with the Mayor's Award.

"Your accomplishment deserves this recognition," he stated.

Harris informed the team members that the city had a special plaque with a team photo and names for the team to take back and hang in Madonna so current and future students will be able to see their accomplishment.

"We'd like to thank you for this recognition," said Coach Brancazio. "The team worked hard to win the championship and it's an honor for us as well."
