Charity expects more clients
The Brooke County Salvation Army, along with other Salvation Army units in the United States, is expecting to be serving more families this Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Capt. Ed Long, Corps Commander of the Brooke Hancock Salvation Army, said recently the local units are preparing to provide as much assistance as possible, with an anticipated limited funding base.
Plans are in the works with the Advisory Council local volunteers are working together to provide Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance.
Applications for Christmas and Thanksgiving assistance are being taken beginning today through Friday at the Brooke County Salvation Army Service Center at 401 Commerce St. in Wellsburg.
Applicants must have a photo ID, Social Security cards for all family members, proof of household income; and proof of expenses, including utilities and rent.
Last year the center helped nearly 300 families at Christmas.
Many local groups are already involved in the annual Kettle Campaign as "Bell Ringers" throughout the community. More are needed groups may still volunteer by contacting Rebecca Bell, Service Center secretary, by calling (304)-737-0071.
