Jewett Rurtian holding rifle drawings

JEWETT — Jewett Ruritan Club is raising funds for community projects through a drawing for American-made rifles.
Two of the six Henry Lever action repeater, octagon barrel, 22-caliber rifles already have been awarded. Winners are Donald Jochims of Hopedale and Mike Barrett of the Tappan Lake area.
An etching, “Jewett Street Car,” which was made in Jewett in the early 1900s, and Jewett Ruritan Club, appears on the stock. The rifles were ordered specially for the project.
Tickets are available from Ruritan members and are $10 each. Sixty tickets are sold on each gun, and a drawing is held after each set of tickets is sold.
They can be purchased by calling Roy Blackburn, project chairman, at (740) 937-2460 or Tom Horn, club president, at (740) 946-4464.
The club had its food trailer at Sally Buffalo Park for an Octoberfest and at the jam session held at the Jewett Community Park Building. Money from the session will help replace the park building windows.
Donations to the window project can be made by calling Horn.
The club also helped fund the new roof put on the building last year.

The club will deliver Thanksgiving and Christmas baskets. Contributions to that project were made by the Village Council.
Other officers are Herb Keller, vice president; Donna Keller, secretary; and Claren Blackburn, treasurer.
The club meets the last Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Jewett Presbyterian Church basement.
