Retired school employees support center, shelter

The Hancock County Association of Retired School Employees (HCARSE) held its September meeting at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Cumberland.

President Mary Lee Vandevander presided, with 86 members and one guest in attendance.

New members Rosemarie Cusick, Pat Long, Dorothy Hinerman and Linda Pappas, were recognized.

Past President Helen Tate gave a reading entitled, "Life is Precious and So Are You," gave the invocation, and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Vandevelder, Rita Orler, Cathy Adam, Judi Andrews, Carol Cameron and Ruth Fuller attended the West Virginia Association of Retired School Employees meeting in Flatwoods, W.Va. on Sept. 2 to 3.

Legislative Chairman Cameron reported on health insurance changes as of Jan. 1. She also named the goals of the state legislative committee. HCARSE Day at the Legislature will be Jan. 20.

Membership Chairman Andrews reported that the organization currently has 182 members and was recognized for membership growth.

Community Outreach Chairman Mishel Robinson thanked members for their donations of snacks for the Weirton Christian Center and cash for the Hancock County Animal Shelter. October's project is prizes for geriatric centers' games.

David Garcia presented the program on Smart 529 College Saving Plan.

The 50/50 drawing was won by John Grossi; door prizes were won by Evangelina Angelos, Donna Bohach, Fuller and Judi Pillo.
