'Splendid Sound' entertains seniors

Members of the Three Score Senior Club held its monthly meeting on Oct. 22 at Undo's in the Holiday Inn-Weirton. President Frances "Cookie"?Veltri presided.

Veltri welcomed all members and guests, and called on Mary Rose Spano to give the invocation. Members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang "God Bless America."

The hall was decorated with pumpkins, goblins and fall foliage.

Veltri introduced a Southern Gospel group from Toronto, Ohio, "Splendid Sound." They sang, "At the Cross," "The Hand of Jesus Touched Me," "Someday," and "Give It Away."

The treasurer's report was given by Veltri; the secretary's report was given by Pat Deletka.

Mary Hvizdzak, membership chairperson, stated that dues will be collected in November and December.

Reservations Chairperson Vivian Weigel reported 135 members and four guests in attendance; Dick Bailey was a guest of Loretta Reynolds, Roslyn DiCocco was the guest of Mary Ann DiFonzo, Linda Voelkel was the guest of Myrtle Flowers, and Pat Gurrera was the guest of Peggy Barber.

Under new business, the nominating committee announced officers for 2010: President, Frances "Cookie" Veltri; Vice-President, Barbara Purks; Secretary, Pat Deletka; and Treasurer, Sondra Weigel.

Winnie Kemp, sunshine chairperson, sent get-well cards to Dorothy Hornak, Diana Crago, Betty Branch, Jack Cummings, Dolores Proakis, Chris Barker, John Plesa, Ornell Meador, Viola Blanc, Joan Villa and Paul Miller.

Sympathy cards were sent to the family of John Rateau, and to Lee Edwards on the death of his son-in-law.

Thank-you cards were received from Helen Beaumont, Vivian Gory, and Jack Cummings.

Birthdays were celebrated by Tony Mazzone, Vivian Weigel, Joan Kyler, Dolores Proakis; all sang, "Happy Birthday."

Veltri reminded members that the November meeting will be held a week early because of Thanksgiving. She also announced that beginning Jan. 1, the club would begin accepting members age 50 and over.

The hospitality chairperson awarded gifts of money to Sam Lescallette, Doris Ficca, Joan Gallagher and DiFonzo.

Two dinners, complements of Undo's, were awarded to Kathleen Mercer and Mildred Vuckovich.

Cummings conducted the 50/25/25 drawing. Billie Dietz and Loretta Reynolds were the winners.

Two dinners, to Dee Jay's BBQ?Ribs and Grille complements of Three Score Seniors, were awarded to Wilma Roberts and John Pandelios.

The menu for November will be house salad, ham loaf, turkey breast, stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberries, glazed baby carrots and pumpkin pie.

Veltri adjourned the meeting after the closing prayer.

A social hour followed with Gino Cercone in charge.
