Rachel Hope Mains
MAINS, Rachel Hope, 86, of Follansbee, W.Va., passed away on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Brightwood Center, Follansbee, W.Va.
Rachel was born on May 1, 1923, in Pitt County, North Carolina, a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Ireland Broadway, also preceded in death by her husband, Walter Gerald Mains on February 15, 2007, and two brothers Marvin and Wilbur Gaskins.
Rachel was a homemaker, a U.S. Navy Civil Service Veteran, where she packed parachutes and was a storekeeper at the Air Station at Franklin, Va., a member of Follansbee United Methodist Church, O.E.S. in Wellsburg, and St. John Quilter Club, The Peacemaker.
Surviving are three daughters, Judy H. O’Brien of North Redington, Beach, Fla., Geraldine Rahr and husband James of Colliers, W.Va., Hope Williams and husband, Jeff of Wintersville, Ohio, five sisters, Alice Keeter of Richmond, Va., Annie Merle Dickerson of Greenville, NC, Nancy Mills of Grimesland, NC, Janie Wadford of Greenville, NC, Edith Hardy of Grimesland, NC, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, from 7-9 p.m. at the James Funeral Home, 1245 Main St. Follansbee, W.Va., where services will held on Monday, Nov. 9, 2009, at 11 a.m.
Interment will follow in St. Johns Cemetery, Colliers, W.Va.
