Colliers Primary School PTA?met recently with President Sabrina Fox presiding and the fourth grade classes leading the Pledge of Allegiance.
The group announced the "Fall Fest"?on Oct. 22. The event included cookie decorating, pumpkin and face painting, games, a cake walk and a chili cook-off, and food hot dogs, taco-in-a-bag, nachos and cheese, and more. An auction and a drawing for Steeler tickets was also held.
Following the welcome and introduction of officers and teachers, committee reports were given: Birthdays will be observed with names and photographs on the front bulletin board and celebrated with a party every month; Box tops and labels continue to be collected; Cultural Arts theme will be "Beauty Is..."; Members are needed for Homeroom Parents; Library started Sept. 21; Extra clothing is needed for the Clothes Closet; and more members are needed for the PTA.
The proposed budget was accepted and room count was won by Mrs. Biela's class.
Auxiliary sets date
The Colliers VFD?Ladies Auxiliary met recently with President Phyllis Aria presiding.
Plans were finalized for the Halloween Party that was held on Oct. 24 at the Colliers Fire Hall.
The group set Dec. 12 for the Community Christmas Party. A?visit from Santa will highlight the evening, and treats and gifts will be given to the children.
The Fish Fry is closed until spring with an opening date to be determined. Other fundraising dates will be announced after the holidays.
Anniversary cookbooks are still available for $6 and may be purchased by calling Aria at (304)?797-1380 or Carol Cain at (304)?748-3155.
Winners announced
Winners in the Weirton-Wellsburg Credit Unions' coloring contest at Colliers Primary School were Ethan Robey and Amanda Zonker.
Helping Hands meet
The Helping Hands of the Colliers Christian Church met recently with Gina Bailey and Melissa Tomes serving as hostesses.
President Karen Welsh presided over the meeting and led devotions entitled, "The Tea Cup."
The group set Dec. 1 for its Christmas Party and there will be a gift exchange along with revealing of the "Secret Pals" for the year. The date of Dec. 13 was also set for the church's Christmas Party and the Christmas Program will be held on Dec. 20.
The church held a "Thankful" dinner following services on Nov. 8.
Hostess for next month's meeting will be Carol Cain and Mary Barton will lead devotions.
Trappers set date
The Northern Panhandle Trappers Association met recently at the Colliers Fire Hall with President Jack Cain presiding.
The group set Dec. 5 for its annual Christmas dinner. Members are asked to bring a covered dish and a "white elephant" auction item.
UMW has meeting
The Colliers United Methodist Women met recently with President Laura Beckleheimer presiding.
Devotions were led by Hope Daugherty whose theme was, "Letters for Being the Person You Want to Be."
The scripture for the month was Colossians 3:1-11, pertaining to what Christians should do.
The group studied the goals for the year for the unit.
It was announced that the Northern District United Methodist Women met in September in Wheeling.
The group will be selling tote bags as a fundraiser.
The meeting closed with a special altar service.
'Christmas in Colliers'
Jo Ellen Goodall, Colliers Primary School principal, hosted "Christmas in Colliers" with an open house on Nov. 9.
A craft show and sale, basket drawing, as well as Family Picture Night with Kathleen and Paul's Portrait Gallery were offered to students and their families.
Proceeds will go to purchase classroom technology equipment.
CEOs meet
Members of the Colliers CEO?Club, a chapter of the Community Educational Outreach Service, met at the Colliers Christian Church with Vice-President Diane Strader presiding.
Devotions were led by Katy Gardei and entitled, "Angels Watching."
Officer reports were accepted and new officers will be elected at the next meeting.
The traveling gift was won by Sarah Tallman.
Strader led the lesson entitled, "Exercising Your Heart and Lungs.
The meeting was closed with members reading the Club Collect.
