Greek Church youth offer one-stop shopping

The Youth Group of All Saints Greek Orthodox Church, located at 3528 West St. in Weirton, will offer a One-Stop Holiday Shopping experience for the community from 1 to 4 p.m. on Nov. 29.

Admission is free and vendors include: Tastefully Simple, Pampered Chef, Tupperware, Tinker's Affordables, TLC Bridal, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Gourmet Fudge, Silpada, Candy Jewels by Melanie, Gold Canyon, Beauti-Control, U.S. Bourne Children's Books, J&J Baskets & Crafts, All Girls Rock Shop and traditional Greek pastries.

All proceeds from the event benefit All Saints' youth groups.

Oak Glen playoff T-shirts available

Oak Glen playoff T-shirts are now available from the Touchdown Club. Support the Golden Bears by purchasing your shirt at the New Cumberland Pharmacy or Citizens Drug Store in Chester.

Cost is $10 per shirt.

Brooke Class of '80 seeking classmates

The Brooke High School Class of 1980 is planning its 30th reunion to be held July 3 at the Serbian American Cultural Center in Weirton.

The committee is looking for members of the class and information may be submitted by contacting Thom Smith by e-mail to colbynus@comcast.net; put "Brooke Reunion" in the subject line. Smith can also be contacted by phone at (804) 550-0241.

American Sewing Guild meets

The November meeting of the American Sewing Guild met at the First Christian Church. There were ten members in attendance.

The Dec. 9 Christmas Party was discussed and members signed up for reservations. It will be held at the Mill Creek Inn at Reed's Mill, Ohio.

Members participated in the "Show and Tell" segment. A?quilt was displayed by Kay Nixon, who is involved with a nation-wide program providing theme quilts for special needs children who are ill or terminally ill. Joanne Gorrell, as well as women from several surrounding states, was also involved in this group project. Sylvia Hornak set up several table runners for viewing, and Sue Barrett showed off a wooden sculpture of antique sewing aids and a adult bib.

The evening's program was on needlepoint and was presented by Diane Smith and Carol Village.

The next meeting is at 7 p.m. on Jan. 5. New members are welcome.

St. Elizabeth's Guild plans bazaar

The meeting of the St. Elizabeth's Guild at St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Three Springs Drive in Weirton was held on Nov. 4 and was opened with the saying of the Guild Prayer and the Church Women's Prayer.

Correspondence was read by Wendy Speer, and Rick Mergen gave the Financial Report.

President Ella May Knierim announced that eight people signed up to receive Thanksgiving baskets and these names were submitted by parishioners of the church.

Under old business, the final details were made for the Holiday Bazaar to be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. In addition to crafts and home- baked items, lunch will be available for shoppers. The menu will be vegetable or wedding soup, sloppy joes or hot dogs, and a beverage.

Bob Knierim announced that the Guild's Christmas Party will be held at Gio's Restaurant at 6 p.m. on Dec. 5 and the deadline for reservations is Nov. 22. All church members are invited and asked to bring a wrapped, $5 gift.

Date for the United Thank Offering (UTO)?Gathering was set to be taken on Dec. 6.

Refreshments were served by Lynn Bish and following the business meeting, members had a work session to make crafts for the bazaar.

'Gowns Galore' event this Saturday

Over 175 homecoming, prom, and adult gowns will be for sale at the Chester First United Methodist Church's "Gowns Galore." The event will be held at the church, located at 240 Carolina Ave., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Gowns, sized from 2 to 22, are available in all colors and styles. Prices for the new or gently- worn gowns range from $5 to $350. Girls wanting to try on dresses are asked not to wear make-up to the sale.

Only cash will be accepted for the sale. Proceeds that were earned from the dresses' registration fee will be donated to Chester/Newell FISH.

Owners of the dresses are reminded to pick up their money or unsold dresses from 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday at the church.

Healthy holiday cooking covered

Tips for cooking healthy holiday dishes will be offered from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Brooke County Public Library.

The free program is being held by the Brooke County West Virginia University Extension Service. Participants should register no later than Nov. 10 by calling (304) 737-3666.
