Truax announces tours to seniors
The AARP Chapter 3846's Nov. 9 meeting was held at Undo's Restaurant with a two-fold theme the celebration of Thanksgiving and honoring our veterans and those currently serving in military service.
In keeping with the West Virginia AARP, notes of greetings and thanks were written, collected and sent to our troops abroad.
Bettie Williamson, president, presiding, led members in repeating the motto, "Divided we fail. Together we can do anything." She welcomed all and introduced guests Pat Ferrell, guest of Joyce Tye; Wanda Granato, guest of Kay Rohall; Jean Irvin and Ruth Sperry, guests of Katy Rosahac; and Nancy Freley and Sandy Pyle, guests of Regina Truax.
Devotional Leader Joann Bugin, gave a reading entitled, "Thanksgiving" and offered the invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the singing of "God Bless America."
Donations were collected for the Community Bread Basket.
After dinner, Carol Irvine introduced Paul Grant, musician and singer, who provided a the program.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Assistant Secretary Penny Mourat. Financial report was given by Treasurer Midge Green.
Mary Rose Spano reported get-well cards were sent to Dorothy Hornak and Shirley Sciarrino. Those celebrating November birthdays were Luelle Robinson, Barbara Visnic and Jay Householder. November anniversaries were Lester and Nancy Friendly, 52 years; Jay and Mary Householder, 58 years; Mike and Mary Hvzdzak, 61 years; Milton and Eva Fabianich, 62 years; and Trent and Helen Ciarrogchi, 69 years.
Reservations and Trips and Tours Chairman Regina Truax reported 108 reservations for the evening. She presented the list of 2010 Tours:
- March 13, "Grease, " Benedum Theater, 2 p.m. matinee show and dinner.
- April 19-22, Atlantic City's Ballys Casino, three nights and four days.
- May 3 and 4, Victoria Casino, one overnight with one dinner and one breakfast.
- May 16, "Bye Bye Birdie," Lincoln Park, Midland, Pa.
- June 4, Sugar Creek.
- June 15 and 16, Seneca Niagara Falls Casino, one overnight and stop at winery for wine tasting.
- Aug. 14, Italian- American Festival, Warren, Ohio.
- Aug. 23-27, Smokey Mountains, five days and four nights, eight meals, and tour of the Great Smokey Mountains State Park, plus six shows.
- Sept. 7-9, New York City, two continental breakfasts, guided tours of Manhattan, Chinatown, Central Park, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Greenwich Village, Wall Street, the Financial District and more.
- Oct. 7 and 8, "Joseph," Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster, Pa., one overnight, one breakfast and one dinner.
- Oct. 17, The Johnson House.
- Nov. 16, Hartwood Acres Christmas Lights and dinner.

Katy Rosahac reported 61 members paid for 2010 including three new members.
Joann Bugin reported on the "Day of Service" at the Serra Village Retirement Community.
John Pandelios installed the officers and Board members for the year 2010: President Joann Bugin, First Vice-President Bettie Williamson; Second Vice-President, Katy Rosahac; Secretary Chuck Bugin; Assistant Secretary Penny Mourat; Treasurer Frank Fazio; and Assistant Treasurer Elma Pandelios.
Board members for three-year term: Milt Fabianich, Beverly Branham and Patsy Verlest; two-year terms: Barbara Visnic, Louise Herman and Viola Blanc; one-year term: John Pandelios, Regina Truax and Kathryn Hardsouk.
Door and drawing prizes were awarded. Free dinners, Carol Irvine and Trent Ciarrocchi; 50/50 drawing, Penny Mourat and Marie Straight; 25 cent drawing, Hank Adamczyk; quilt, Louise Herman.
Door prizes were bags of apples won by Joyce Rzepka, Diana Crago, Viola Blanc, Marie Scarfo, Mildred Vuckovich, Betty Chappell, Marie Straight, Kathleen Horvath, Loe Horvath, Lois Rice, Louise Herman, Janet Kamppi, Kathryn Hardsouk, Hank Adamczyk, Barbara Visnic, Mary Rose Spano and Marian Bowen.
The next Board meeting will be held on Dec. 8. The next regular meeting will be Dec. 14. Members will be collecting cans of food and non-perishables for The Salvation Army Christmas baskets.
The menu for the December meeting is salad, roast pork and gravy or chicken marsala, scalloped potatoes, vegetable medley and ice cream cake.
The closing prayer was led by Bugin. The meeting was adjourned.
