Anthony F. ‘Tony’ Sharpe

SHARPE, Anthony F. "Tony," 94, of Steubenville, Ohio, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2009, in Sienna Woods.

He was born June 27, 1915, in Maynard, Ohio, a son of the late Luigi A. and Maryanna Oppromala Sharpe.

He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church; St. Francis Society; a WW II US Army veteran; Alpha Phi Delta Fraternity; a graduate of St. Clairsville High School class of 1932; attended College of Steubenville and a former councilman in Mingo Junction.

He was a past president of Steubenville Bowling Association and ran tournaments for 44 years and a member of the Riverview and City Bowling Leagues. He was on the first bowling team for the College of Steubenville; and was a member and usher at the former St. Pius X Catholic Church.

Tony was a retired mail carrier with 35 years of service.

Preceding Tony in death were four brothers, Dominic, John, Frank and Donald Sharpe; and one sister, Geneva.

Surviving are his wife, Emily A. Peterson Sharpe; son, A. Leroy (Janet) Sharpe of Wintersville; daughter, Marlane Gyduska of New Port Richey, Fla.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph Sharpe of Las Vegas, Nev.; and sister, Mary Parrella of Calif.

Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home in Wintersville on Thursday 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Funeral liturgy with mass 10 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Church with Msgr. Kurt Kemo officiating.

Burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Vigil services 3:45 p.m. Thursday

Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will conduct services at the cemetery.
