BRILLIANT — Two nurses scholarships were awarded at the Jefferson County 8 & 40 Salon 807 Christmas dinner held at the Brilliant American Legion Post Home.
Robert Keyser presented a scholarship to Tracie Brindenbaugh from Voiture 40 & 8 Locale 442. Brindenbaugh said she had waited until her children were older before going into nursing studies, and it wasn’t easy getting an education now.
Lorraine Hazlett, 8 & 40 nurses scholarship chairman, presented the award in memory of Doris Ferguson, a deceased former nurses chairman who worked hard to attain the scholarships.
The scholarship, certificate and bracelet with nurses emblems were given to Shana Keenan Bokunevitz, who was in the military and served in Iraq. She made the decision to become a nurse upon her return. She has a 2-year-old child.
Both recipients were accompanied by their husbands.
A donation was received from the departmental chapeau for the nurses scholarship, and a wine basket fundraiser was held.
Verna Reynard conducted the meeting and Sharon Morris gave the invocation and benediction.
