Charles E. Elson
ELSON, Charles Eugene “Gene” “Soupbone” Elson, 71, of Manor Drive, Wellsburg, passed away at home on November 20, 2009.
Gene was born December 6, 1937, in Wellsburg. He was a retired postal worker, a member of the Franklin United Methodist Church, Wellsburg, a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Wellsburg Masonic Lodge #2 AF&AM, and a member of the Osiris Shrine, Wheeling, and a member of the Wellsburg Elks, and the Wellsburg Elks Coffee Club. Gene served in the Marines during peacetime.
He is preceeded in death by his parents, Franklin and Edna Nixon Elson; two brothers, Everett Wayne Elson and Franklin Elson; four sisters, Eleanor Gooch, Arlene Welch, Loretta Adams, and Myra Fletcher.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Hazlett Elson, whom he Married July 31, 1965; two sons, Kent Elson and his wife Jessica of Hoboken, N.J., and Kevin Elson and his wife Chrissy of Follansbee; one daughter, Dr. Beth Ann Esposito and her husband Keith of Fairmont, W.Va.; one brother, Keith Elson and his wife Betty of Wellsburg; two sisters, Betty Ferda and her husband John, of Wellsburg, and Patricia Whiteman and her husband Harold “Oscar” of Wilmington, N.C.; and four grandchildren, Sarah and Olivia Esposito and Kelsey and Kayla Elson.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2009 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Reasner Funeral Home, 1515 Charles St., Wellsburg. Services will be held Monday November 23, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Carl Tribett and Johnathan Absher officiating. Interment will be held at Franklin Cemetery, Wellsburg, with full Masonic graveside rites by the Wellsburg Masonic Lodge #2 AF&AM.
