November declared United Way MonthNovember 25, 2009 - By ANGELINA DICKSON, Staff writerWeirton city officials have declared November "United Way Month" in the city of Weirton. Mayor Mark Harris presented Cathy Ferarri, Weirton United Way Executive Board member, with a proclamation declaring November as such. He said the agencies of the United Way serve the citizens of the area. He said many of the services provided are varied and much needed. Harris said the United Way continues to be the most efficient means of rendering these services without duplication of programs and with a minimum amount of administrative citizens. "The volunteers of the United Way contribute significantly to the welfare of this community," said Harris. Ferarri stated the United Way Executive Board would like to thank Weirton City Council and the mayor for their support. She said the United Way has reached 81 percent of the goal and the support of the city and the residents is imperative. "It takes everyone to make the goal," she said. Ferarri said the United Way is aware that times are tough for everyone and even if a little can be given, "a little works." Harris stated all citizens are urged to support wholeheartedly and generously the volunteer efforts of the United Way that touches the lives of so many in the community.
