Robert Conklin

CONKLIN, Robert (Bob) Janvier, 84, of Hudson, Ohio, died on Friday, November 13, 2009, in Akron City Hospital. Born in Toledo Ohio, he was a 1943 graduate of Bellaire, Ohio High School. While in the Navy V-12 Program, he attended Baldwin Wallace College and Columbia University. He was a 1949 graduate of Case School of Applied Science (now Case Western Reserve University) in Cleveland, Ohio, with a degree in metallurgical engineering. He completed the Navy V-12 Program, then served on active duty in World War II and again during the Korean War. He loved football, playing in high school, at Baldwin Wallace and at Case. He was employed by Wheeling Steel Corporation, Arthur G. McKee & Co. Engineering Consultants and Charter Manufacturing Co. In Toronto, Ohio, he was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where he was ordained as a Deacon and also chaired the Christian Education Building Expansion Project. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts and was elected to the Toronto City Schools Board of Education. He was a life member of Valley of Steubenville, Ohio Masons. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Roscoe and Miriam Jones Conklin, and his wife of 36 years, Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Kompart Conklin. He was also preceded by his wife, Leila Robinson Kennedy, and his brother, John Randolph Conklin of North Carolina. He is survived by daughters, Marcie (Steve) Weissner of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Chris (Dave) Bell of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, granddaughters, Sarah (Matt) Leight of Troy, Michigan, Annie (Bill) Joslin of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Bethany Bell of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and grandsons, Scott (Amy) Bell of Mayfield Heights, Ohio, and Mark Bell (Aspasia Sicking) of South Euclid, Ohio; three great-grandchildren. Surviving are Lucas Robert and Danielle Elizabeth Leight of Troy, Michigan and Alexander Jack Bell of South Euclid, Ohio; brother, James Gerald (Emily) Conklin of Sarasota, Florida also survives. The memorial service is Saturday, December 5, 2009, at Laurel Lake Retirement Center in Hudson, Ohio at 2:30 p.m. Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association or charity of one’s choice.
