Community briefsDecember 4, 2009'Tapestry of Women' prayer breakfast set The "Tapestry of Women"?Bible Study and Prayer Breakfast will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Dec. 12 at the Baymont Inn and Suites on Three Springs Drive in Weirton. Saturday's timely lesson will be "What is your attitude towards Christmas tasks?" The overall theme of the gathering is for Christian women "Pick them up, hold them up, and build them up." To support the women's outreach program, feeding the hungry, attendees are asked to bring non-perishable and/or canned foods to donate to those less fortunate. On Tuesday at the Family of God Christian Center (the former Edgewood School), the group will make fleece blankets for nursing home patients that do not receive visitors. Women will gather at 6 p.m. and each are asked to bring two pieces of fleece, one and one-half yards apiece per blanket. Methodists to host fundraiser dinner A fall, fundraising dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday at First United Methodist Church, located at 3301 West St. in Weirton. Cost of the homemade cabbage roll meal will be $7 for adults and $3.50 for children. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Dine in or take out service will be provided. Tickets are available in advance by calling Judy at (304)?748-4108 or Mishel at (304) 748-6686. A table of six people may be pre-reserved for your dining convenience. Knights of Columbus to host dance The Weirton Knights of Columbus will host an "Oldies" Dance at 8 p.m. on Dec. 12. The event, open to the public and held in the Gallery, features Ed Onori playing his favorites along with special requests. Admission is $5 per person and dress is casual. and please feel free to bring your snacks and finger foods to the dance. Reservations are not required; however, you can reserve a group table if so desired by calling 304-723-1492 and asking for Jim. Elks announce Christmas dance The Christmas Dance for members and guests of Weirton Elks Lodge 1801 will be held from 8 to 11 p.m. on Dec. 12 at the lodge, located at 3429 Main St. Music will be provided by "Hot Pursuit." Tickets are $15 for singles and $30 per couple. Reservations are being accepted at the lodge or by calling (304)?748-0565. Starkdale to hold Advent service An Evening Praise with an emphasis on Advent will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday at the church located at 4600 Sunset Boulevard in Steubenville.
