WEIRTON - Several of the area's representatives to the West Virginia Legislature came together today to meet with local residents and discuss the upcoming legislative session.
The second-annual Legislative Luncheon event was held this afternoon at the Weirton Millsop Community Center, organized by the Downtown Business Association and the Weirton Area Chamber of Commerce.
Legislators in attendance included Del. Tim Ennis, D-Brooke; Del. Pat McGeehan, R-Hancock; Del. Randy Swartzmiller, D-Hancock; state Sen. Ed Bowman, D-Weirton; state Sen. Jack Yost, D-Wellsburg; and state Sen. Jeff Kessler, D-Glen Dale.
The legislators discussed some of what they felt would be the major topics for the next session, which begins in January, such as the state's budget, coal and energy issues, employee liability and education, as well as the possibility of an increase in the state's tobacco tax, cap and trade and judicial reform in West Virginia.
The legislators were asked questions by members of the audience, as well as a panel including Lou Stein of Valley Ventures, Hancock County Administrator Chuck Svokas and Bill D'Alesio representing the Business Development Corp. of the Northern Panhandle.
John Sorrenti served as master of ceremonies.
