Jake Greathouse

GREATHOUSE, Jake, 85, of Weirton, passed away Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at home.

He was born May 1, 1924, in Wileyville, W.Va, the son of the late James and Ola Greathouse Greathouse.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired from the Strip Steel Department of Weirton Steel where he worked on the Pickler.

Also preceded in death by his wife, Stella Wawrzynczak Greathouse on Nov. 20, 1993; a brother, Dutch Greathouse; sisters, Ruth and Agnes Greathouse.

Surviving are his companion, Shirley Hood; a stepdaughter, Anna (Walter) Mankowski of Weirton; four sisters, Mary Jane (Donald) Hawkins of New Martinsville, W.Va., Nettie Greathouse of Burton, W.Va, Madge Barker of Wileyville, W.Va., and Gladys (Paul) Burdine of Hundred, W.Va.; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. Monday at the Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home, 380 Penco Road, Weirton, W.Va., where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009.
