DeLelles to present performance todayMarimba artist plays at 4 p.m. at Christian Science ChurchDecember 19, 2009First Church of Christ, Scientist, 600 Lovers Lane, will hold its annual Christmas program Saturday at 4 p.m. featuring William DeLelles on the marimba. DeLelles began his classical studies with Eliseo Rael in late 2007 and was named a Pittsburgh Concert Society Young Artist. He will appear in Laredo, Texas, in January as part of a marimba/percussion duet. DeLelles placed first in the second-annual Atlanta SymphonY Orchestra modern snare drum competition and played two seasons with the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra and toured China with the orchestra in 2008. He is pursuing a bachelor of music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music under the tutelage of Richard Weiner and Paul Yancich. He is a native of Steubenville, and his percussive interests began at the age of 3, when he would play the bongos along with classic rock recordings. DeLelles gives solo recitals and plays in stylistically diverse ensembles. His professional goals are to become an orchestral musician and multi-instrumental soloist. The program will include carol singing, piano and organ duets with Ruth Brown at the piano and H. Lee Kinney at the organ. Sunday School students will read the Christmas story. Louise Snider will moderate the program, and refreshments will be served. |
