Krayon Box Kids holds breakfast with Santa

December 21, 2009 - By DOROTHY JANCART, correspondent

ATLASBURG, Pa. - The weather outside might have been frightful, but inside Krayon Box Kids Daycare and Preschool, it was so delightful.

Braving snowy roads, parents brought more than a dozen little ones to Atlasburg Plaza have breakfast and to visit with Santa. Kim's Cookies and More Bakery provided drinks and refreshments, and Santa gave each child a bag of treats.

As three-year old Sadie Jane Howard entered the building, she asked, "Where are Santa's reindeer?" At first shy with Santa, she could be heard telling the bearded gent that she wanted a cupcake maker.

"My daughter's social skills have improved greatly since attending Krayon Box Kids," added mom Aubrey Howard of Wellsburg.

Krayon Box Kids offers a Funshine Express program that includes a curriculum based on current research and sound educational theories of early childhood learning and development, according to daycare employees.

Jessica Shuble, director of the school, has a degree in Early Childhood Education and seven years of preschool teaching experience.

Staff includes Sandy Lindsay, Manager, Sandy O'Shanka, Heidi Ryan and Yvonne Mayhew, group supervisors; and Natalie Wilkins, Cortney Harshey, and Chelsea Murray, teacher aides. All staff are trained and certified in first aid and CPR.

Debbie Angelo of Langeloth, parent of ten-month old Rabekah-Rae said that Krayon Box Kids "feels more like a home environment instead of a daycare. It is very clean and organized."

Jennifer Horstman, also of Langeloth, added "When I walk in the door, my nine-month daughter Sadie is laughing. She is happy here and that makes me happy."

Krayon Box Kids is open five days a week from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Age acceptance is from six weeks up to fourteen years with thirty children currently enrolled.

A summer session is also offered with age-appropriate activities.

Breakfast and a snack is provided and children bring lunch from home.
