Community briefsDecember 31, 2009Wellness Center adds activities Be well! Monthly health checks are being added to the list of wellness activities offered by the Hancock County Senior Wellness Center. The second Tuesday of each month, beginning at 11:30 a.m., a healthcare professional will be onsite to deliver a health check or screening. January's guest is Joann Bonar from Anwar Eye Center. She will provide participants with an eye screening. If you are concerned about your eye health and would like professional advice, come at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 12. Monthly wellness workshops have also been added to the growing list of activities at the Senior Wellness Center. The last Wednesday of each month at 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., staff members will cover timely health and wellness topics. January's workshop is entitled, "Small Steps to Health," and is provided by West Virginia University Extension Service's Community Educational Outreach (Service Lesson WLG476). Wyandot Bowmen announce schedule The New Cumberland Wyandot Bowmen announce their indoor 3-D archery shoots for the coming months. Shoots begin at 1 p.m. on the following Sundays: January 3, 10, 17, 24 and 31. February 7, 14, 21 and 28. March 7. At 6 p.m. on Thursdays and Saturdays (during these three months), the bowmen will also hold an indoor spot shoot. Cost is $10, adults; $5, youth; and cubs are free. A $50 gift certificate or cash will be presented to the shooter with the highest combined score of the season. The indoor course is located on Tope-Florence Road in New Cumberland. Cost is $6, adults; $3, children 5 to 10, and children under 5 eat free. The menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, juice and coffee. |
